Handbook of North American Indians

The “Southeast” Volume of the Handbook of North American Indians

Between 1998 and 2004, I was involved in the work of editing volume 14 of the 20 volume Handbook of North American Indians (1042 pages quarto). This volume is dedicated to the “Southeast” region. The editor for this volume was Raymond D. Fogelson of the University of Chicago and the general editor for the series was William C. Strutevant† of the Smithsonian Institution. I began work on this volume as a member of the volume planning committee and went on the fill the roles of coordinator for the ethnology chapters and Associate Volume Editor. The Handbook is a publication of the U.S. government and is available form a number of sources, including the U.S. Government Bookstore.
